Why Life Gets Better When You Stop Giving A Fuck

Sometimes, giving too much of a fuck can put your happiness in danger. And I’m not just speaking from observation, but from experience.

I used to care too much about other people’s opinions of what I do.

I used to care too much about what people think about what I do.

I used to care too much about how others judge what I do, or who I am, and that’s when my happiness was vulnerable at the time.

There’s no need for you to worry about what people think of you. That’s a waste of energy.

Why life gets better when you stop giving a fuck.

1. You’ll Care Less About The Critics

“I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses.” – Johannes Kepler

When I first started out blogging, I was bothered by the opinions of others. Because of this, I never shared my articles on Facebook.

The same thing happened when I started my first business. I didn’t promote or share it with people I know.

But then I stopped giving a you know what, and promoted what I did anyway.

The moment you stop giving a damn about something is the moment you grow some balls.

Balls big enough to fit inside a football stadium! And that goes for whether you’re a man or a woman.

2. You’ll Become More Self Confident

Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment – Thomas Carlyle

Not giving a fuck is an accomplishment in its self. You know why? Because most of us never reach that point.

And most of us care too much about what people think, or take things too seriously.

When you stop giving a damn about what people think, your confidence will shoot through the roof faster than a shotgun bullet.

You’ll start to believe in whatever it is that you’re doing, without letting outside influences stop you or sway your decisions.

And you’ll start to be yourself whether you’re criticized or not.

3. You’ll Do What Makes You Happy

“Happiness depends upon ourselves.” – Aristotle

Lets use 50 cent as an example. Why Life Gets Better When You Stop Giving A Fuck

He’s one of those people who doesn’t give a *beep* about what people say about him.

He does what he wants to do. He does what he feels is the right thing to do. And he does whatever he chooses to do.

In 6 words, he does what makes him happy.

That’s the type of thing someone does when they could care less about what naysayers have to say.

If you’ve been too sensitive towards criticism, naysayers, or the approval of others, it’s time to get your mind straight.

Stop giving a damn, stop being sensitive, focus on your own needs then you’ll find yourself doing what makes YOU happy.

4. You’ll Take Action Without Fear Of Being Judged

“I think fearless is having fears but jumping anyway.” – Taylor SwiftWhy Life Gets Better When You Stop Giving A Fuck

I do things without fear of being judged, no matter how unusual, crazy, or “abnormal” it might be.

If I believe in it, and I stand behind it, I’m doing it. No matter how crazy it is to the masses. But that doesn’t mean I’m perfect.

I have fears just like any other human being. I’m no different to you.

But when you reach that point of not giving a F, you’ll take action without concern of being judged. The fear will be there, but it sure damn well won’t stop you.

That’s the type of mindset you need to be in!

5. You’ll Think Independently

Some people want to start their own businesses, but are too scared to make the jump for one reason. They give too much of a fuck to just do it.

They’re too dependent upon other people’s opinions and approval to take action.

Independence comes from making your own decisions, being self reliant, and being able to act on your own accord. REGARDLESS of outside opinions, judgments or criticisms.

That’s the person YOU need to be. Be so independent minded that nothing can sway your decisions, your choices and your actions.

6. You’re No Longer Imprisoned By The Way You Think

A limited mindset will limit your capabilities – Unknown

When you’re too concerned about the opinions of others, you’re at their mercy. And the moment you’re at their mercy, you’re already trapped by the way you think.

That makes you no different to a criminal in a prison. You’re locked up, unable to get out, and trapped because of your own actions.

The difference between a physical prison and a mental prison is you’re able to free yourself whenever you choose to.

Be the person who could care less about what a troll or a naysayer has to say about you.

Then you’ll be the person who’s encouraged by the way you think, rather than trapped by the way you think!

  1. I find that, although I personally am slowly caring less and less of what others think, it’s VERY hard for someone who is trying to go from caring a lot to not giving a single fuck what anyone thinks.

I think some highly practical advice for anyone who is trying not to truly and intrinsically not care is this; ask why you care? Why does it matter? Realizing that most people don’t even notice you let alone judge you is a great way to overcome it. I use to think everyone was judging me when I messed up, but it rarely is the care.

People are like you, busy. They don’t have time to worry about you. And those that do, they aren’t worth your stressful thoughts anyways.

Just do you, as I like to say.

Epic post, loved all of your tips! 🙂

    • I know what you mean, Dustyn. I love what you said and couldn’t agree more.

I was a little more sensitive to it myself beforehand. But I guess you eventually stop giving a F when you’ve either: A – Had enough, or B – You look at things through logical eyes.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  2. Absolutely, 100% agree that life gets better when you focus on what makes you happy and helps yourself instead of living scared to not do anything wrong. There’s over 7 billion people in the world, so of course not everyone is going to like you—get over it and do what you love.

    • Couldn’t have put it better myself, Brian!

      Thanks for sharing, mate

  3. I loved this post so much because it says so much about how I am and the way I’ve been acting throughout my career and my personal life my entire life. I have so much ambition yet so much fear of the opinions of others. It’s time to breakaway sooner or later. What’s the best way to do it? What way is best to achieve a no-fucks mentality??

    • Hey Rana. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂

For me i just got the point where I started to realize a couple of things:

      1. Caring about what people think doesn’t make me any happier
      2. Caring about what people think doesn’t make my life any better

From there I started doing things regardless of what other people thought, or the negative opinions that came with it. It’s a muscle, you have to practice to make it stronger and stronger over time.

      Hope that’s helpful to you!

      Take care

      • I like this comment because you just helped me realize that giving a f is just extra work… and I only work if I’m going to get paid for it. I’ll keep trying, thank you!

        • LOL. Exactly, Silvia. The extra work just isn’t worth the cost (or stress) 🙂

Glad you found this post useful!

  4. Brilliant. This helps me so much. Thank you, Theo.

    • Glad to be helpful, Bennet!

  5. 4 years old, but right on the money…
