Life Is About Memories And Experiences

You can close your eyes to reality but not to memories. – Stanislaw Jerzy Lec

Life is only as complicated as you make it. But when you simplify what life is really about, it comes down to 2 things. Memories and experiences.

How happy you are with your life depends on what kind of memories and experiences you’ve been creating.

Your memories are snapshots of your past, and the only way to create good memories is to create good experiences.

And If your memories repeat themselves over and over, it means you’re not experiencing new things.

I’ve had lots of fun experiences and created lots of good memories. But some of those experiences came at a price – because some of them put my future on hold!

I’m sure you can relate.

What experiences do you want to create?

Do you want to experience what it’s like to be a millionaire? Or just be wealthy?

Do you want to run a successful online business?

Do you want to experience what it’s like ride on a boat? Or the impact of giving to those in need?

I asked myself this question just yesterday night, and then I started writing down answers in my notebook.

A couple of experiences I’m working on creating, and would love to have are…

  1. Traveling to Japan, and exploring one of their shrines.
  2. Seeing what it’s like to wear a black Kimono in Japan.
  3. Doing the fire-walk in Dubai.
  4. Eating out at a restaurant by the beach.
  5. Traveling by helicopter. (would be fun)
  6. Inspiring, and impacting 100,000’s of people’s lives globally.

I want to experience all 6 of those things, and number 6 is a big one for me. I’m not even a quarter of the way yet, but It’s a must that I achieve it. It means something to me.

Japan is a place I’ve wanted to travel to recently, and I’m gonna love it. A lot of cartoons and games I grew up on were made in Japan, so I’ll have a lot of fun being there.

Plus I love their style over in Japan, it’ll be one to remember.

The fire-walk in Dubai looks crazy, and I’m a big believer of facing your fears. It’s the best way to grow on a personal level.

As for the rest, I’ll have a lot of fun doing them, and will have happy memories to look back on in the future.

Experiences vs goals

Goals are nothing more than targets. And you need a target to know what it is you’re trying to hit.

Experiences are events that leave behind good or bad memories.

If you want to create certain experiences in your life, you first need to set goals and achieve them. You need one to have the other.

Don’t just think about the goal its self, think about the experiences behind them, and the types of experiences you’d like to have after achieving your goals.

That’s what makes achieving your goals more exciting and motivating.

Goals are motivating too, but thinking about the experiences that follow is a cool way to stay motivated!

Buy experiences, not things

There’s a reason people put themselves in debt to have the fanciest car on the block. (As stupid as that is).

There’s a reason people share photos and videos online.

There’s a reason people love all you can eat buffet’s. And there’s a reason people pay for a massage.

People buy experiences

Don’t just buy things for the sake of it, or buy it because everybody else bought it.

Buy it for the experiences it’ll create, rather than how much it costs or how popular the product is.

Then you’ll have a lot more great memories to share and look back on in the future. Memories are priceless.

That being said, be aware of the experiences you’re buying into, because some experiences can hurt you in the long run.

For example – Drinking alcohol 24/7, smoking, instant gratification, having sex with each and every girl or guy you come across, etc.

But I’d assume my audience (meaning you), is smart enough to know that!

What experiences do you want to create? What kind of memories would you like to look back on and be proud of?

Let it be known in the comments. 🙂
