Ingrid Nilsen is the beauty blogger who’s featured in the YouTube Creators Academy Course.
And has well over 1 million loyal followers on her YouTube channel where she vlogs about Beauty, fashion and health.
Recently Ingrid Nilsen came out on YouTube about her sexuality, stating she’s gay and the story behind what she’s been through.
For example – holding it back for many years, confronting it with her parents and so on.
Not only do I admire her for that, but her honesty is powerful and refreshing.
Ingrid Nilsen Can Teach You 4 Things About Honesty.
1. The Truth Will Set You Free
“The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.” – James A. Garfield
There is no exception to this rule. For example –
- If you’ve been hiding something because you’re afraid of being judged.
- If you’ve been hiding the truth because you’re insecure about it.
- If you’re afraid of being criticized for what you are.
- And If something is important enough to you….
Eventually it’ll start to eat you up, chew away at you, grind you and stress you out. And the only way to fix it is to come out with the truth.
The truth will always set you free and release you from the prison you’ve put yourself in. Without a doubt!
And that applies to ALL areas of life. It doesn’t matter If:
- You’re in a relationship.
- You’ve done something bad in the past.
- You’ve hurt somebody without their knowing.
- You’re something other than what people think you are.
- You’ve lied to someone’s face….
It’s all the same. If it’s important to you, or the person it involves is important to you, it will tear you open from the inside out.
At least until you decide to get real with yourself, summon up the courage and exposure the truth regardless of what people might think.
Ingrid Nilsen deserves a round of applause for that! There aren’t too many people who have the balls to do it.
2. You can’t outrun the truth
“Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” – Thomas Jefferson
You can’t outrun the truth no matter how fast you are or how HARD you try. The truth will stick around 24/7 like your shadow when exposed to light.
And the only way you’ll ever be able to get rid of it is when you confront the truth.
Once you face the truth, accept the truth, embrace the truth and get comfortable with the truth, your worries will fade away.
But until you decide to do that, don’t expect anything to change. And definitely don’t expect to feel any better until you’ve faced the truth head on.
Don’t bullshit yourself.
3. Honesty is a sign of growth
I’m continually trying to make choices that put me against my own comfort zone. As long as you’re uncomfortable, it means you’re growing. – Ashton Kutcher
The world is full of deceit. The world is full of lies, tricks, smokescreens, manipulation and fear based actions.
This is a fact that can’t be denied.
For someone to have the courage, the boldness, the confidence and the willingness to tell the truth is a big deal.
It’s a big deal because it’s a sign of growth and it’s a sign of personal progress.
And it’s quite an achievement to be brutally honest.
Especially knowing that there are going to be those who scorch, hate, put down, criticize and grill you for it.
Ya see, it’s too easy to point fingers and be negative towards those who aren’t afraid to speak their mind.
But those same people who aren’t afraid to speak their truth should be respected and commended.
Honest and straightforward people set good examples for others and show society that it’s OK to be yourself. Because there’s no better person you can be.
Ingrid Nilsen IS one of those people.
4. Honesty is inspirational
“In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” – George Orwell
Lets be honest. The most inspirational people on this planet share one common trait, and that’s honesty.
Honesty allows other people to see into your world and connect with you. As well as relate to what you’ve been through, your experiences and your situation.
It’s the same reason music is so powerful. Just take a look at some of the top musicians in the world and how strong their following is.
The same can be said for the top YouTube vloggers and creatives in general.
Honesty is a part of being human, and it’s the best way to inspire others and help us relate to each other.
