Don’t Imagine You’re Confident, Act Like You’re Confident

DON'T IMAGINE YOU'RE CONFIDENT, ACT LIKE YOU'RE CONFIDENT

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with. Confidence is something you’ve got to earn, pretty much like everything else in life.

You’ve got to take action, you’ve got to do something about it, and you’ve got to do more than “wish” to be confident. That’s for sure!

Wishing for confidence feels good, and imagining you’re confident feels good, but it’s nothing compared to the true feeling of confidence. 

Wishing and imagining your confident can only take you so far, in fact that’s a lie.

Wishing and imagining your confident won’t take you far at all, not even a millimeter further than where you are. And maybe a millimeter or two if you’re lucky.

Whatever position you’re in right now, trust me, I’ve been there before.

I know how it feels to not be as confident as you’d like to be. I know how it feels to be afraid and be overwhelmed by fear.

I know how it feels to be a slave to your fears, your thoughts about fear, and the imaginary scenarios you make up in your head related to fear.

I know how paralyzing it can be and how energy-draining it can be. I know how limiting it can be when it’s a mindset you have to carry around with you on a daily basis.

I know how shitty it feels to have low confidence, and therefore a low opinion of yourself, your skills and your capabilities. Yeah, I know damn well how that feels.

I’m still in the middle of building my confidence, because there’s always new fears for me to conquer.

But back to the title of this blog post.

 

Don’t imagine you’re confident, act like you’re confident

You can only imagine, wish and “think” of being confident for so long. At some point you’re going to have to take action, get over your fears and get it over and done with.

And the way to do that is to ACT like you’re confident. Let me repeat that….

 

Act like you’re confident!

Sometimes you’ve got to fake it until you make it, and in this case it DOES help, a lot.

If you’re lacking confidence and you’re lacking the ability to get over your fears, fake it until you make it.

Act like you’re confident to be confident and then you will be confident overtime.

Depending on how dedicated you are, and how often you follow through, you’ll get there either sooner or later.

 

Here’s an example

If you’re a blogger, and you’re not confident enough to write for other websites yet, ACT as if you’re that person who IS confident. So how would you do that?

First you figure out what a confident blogger who writes for other websites would do or be like. In this example…

  • They’d approach specific websites and pitch an article.
  • They’d get in touch with the website regardless of rejection.
  • They’d focus on the benefits of pitching guest articles, rather than the negatives.
  • They’d focus on getting results, not getting turned down.
  • They’d continue to pitch articles regardless of how many times they fail.
  • They’d believe in themselves 100%.
  • They’d take consistent action.

Action builds confidence, no matter what the purpose of that action is. Focusing on the benefits instead of the negatives is a confident trait.

Being consistent and being persistent is a confident trait. And of course, believing in yourself and staying positive is a confident trait too.

I know this because I pitch articles to other websites myself. I’ve faced many rejections, yet, I still keep going.

That’s confidence! Otherwise why would I persist?

 

Fake It Till You Make It, And Take Action To Build Confidence

Whatever it is you’d like confidence in, or whatever it is you’re not confident doing, fake it till you make it. Act like you’re confident and do it consistently.

Take immediate action regardless of how bad it feels or how scared you are. Because like Dale Carnegie said –

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy. – Dale Carnegie

And doubt and fear are best friends with confidence. When doubt and fear are around, you better believe “low confidence” is right by their side.

Here’s another quote taken from Kim Kardashian about taking action to build confidence. –

If I don’t feel confident about my body, I’m not going to sit at home and feel sorry for myself and not do something about it. It’s all about taking action and not being lazy. So you do the work, whether it’s fitness or whatever. It’s about getting up, motivating yourself and just doing it. – Kim Kardashian

So in summary, here’s what you need to do.

  1. Don’t imagine you’re confident, act like you’re confident.
  2. Fake it till you make it.
  3. Take ACTION to build confidence.

And If you expect to get results, do it TODAY. You could do it tomorrow or next week or next year If you like, but why waste time? Get it done now and make it a priority.

The quicker you take action, the quicker and higher your confidence will rise.

Eventually, your confidence will become so high it’ll be dancing on the clouds. That’s how confident you want and need to be!

And don’t just take all this information in and not act on it.

Go and do it after this post. Then you’ll be raining confidence before you know it ;).
